At our Installation meeting on June 18th we were glad to see Nora Pou and Joe Grignaffini. Pres. Paul Simard opened with the Pledge, followed by an Invocation by Toby Kell. Happy Dollars: Anthony, Pou, Armentano, Spoto, Kaiser, Robotham (20!), Adams, DeFazio & Simard. Frank Robotham serenaded us with a German song learned for the Rotary International Convention in Hamburg. Prez Paul reviewed the highlights of his year as President. Vin Spoto gave us an update on the Opioid Seminar and our newest project at MassBay (see p.2) . Susan Bevilacqua reported on the presentation of the Service Above Self Award to graduating senior, Alex Stoddard. Paul Simard updated us on the Camp for Kids and Bob Anthony announced the latest Peer Leadership and Adolescent Depression success in Nigeria thanks to a Rotary Global Grant.
Tory DeFazio presented Paul Harris Awards this year to Bob Anthony (6th); Frank Rowbotham (6th); Toby Kell (5th); Donna Armentano (2nd), and first timers: Paul Simard, Bill Westerman and Andrea Kaiser. Cynthia Sibold was not able to be present to receive hers. Congratulations to all! Tory proceeded to induct the Officers, Directors & Chairs for 2019-2020 followed by inducting President Bill Westerman. In his remarks Bill wants to “open the vision of the Club” to new members. He gives great promise to upcoming PR efforts to promote the Club. Also, he wants to address leadership issues. He then opened the floor to discussion which lead to interesting topics on “learning about Rotary”; getting good speakers, and making Wellesley Rotary more “event connected”. Linda Tighe suggested an “open house.” We’re off to a great new Rotary year!
